I was on my way from Mount Cook to Christchurch when I noticed this sign along the road. I found it quite funny to see a sign like this in the middle of nowhere with miles and miles long stretches of road with no vehicles at all.

I can imagine you'd want to drive fast here because of the low amount of vehicles in this part of the country. The roads are asking for it! I've never seen a police officer using his laser gun in New Zealand by the way. Another reason why I made this photo.

Mount Cook Village is located near New Zealand's highest mountain, 12 kilometers south of the summit. The small village is home to just a few facilities. There are a couple of hotels/hostels. Mount Cook Village is mainly used as a base for those who want to climb the mountain. There really isn't a whole to do here but it's the best place to relax. I had a flight around Mount Cook planned but this was canceled due to bad weather.

The previous photo in this set was taken earlier that day and it shows how fast the weather changes in New Zealand. Near Lindis Pass we had a beautiful day with loads of sunshine and later that day it was all foggy, cold and rainy.

En route on State Highway 8 from Queenstown to Mount Cook. This photo was taken somewhere near Lindis Pass. I took this photo because I noticed these two clouds. They look quite weird to me. Does anyone know what these clouds are called

The weather was still pretty chilly that day. The blue sky changed later that day when the weather got worse and it started raining.

This is a shot from a train journey I took a couple of years ago in New Zealand. It is by far one of the most exiting train journeys I've ever taken and it's also voted as one of the world’s great scenic railway journeys.

The TranzAlpine runs from Christchurch to Greymouth and basically connects the Tasman Sea and the Pacific Ocean by going coast to coast. The trip takes 4.5 hours one way using 19 tunnels and 4 viaducts with the highest at 73 meters. The length of the journey is 223.8 kilometers.

This photo is taken during the train ride when the train reaches Arthur's Pass National Park. Arthur's Pass is one of the few stops along the line but it's definately the highest stop.

This is how my back yard looked like in New Zealand. I took this photo in the tiny village of Franz Josef which is mainly known for its glacier. The glacier is a major tourist attraction and many people visit Franz Josef solely for the glacier. Other than the glacier, there really isn't much to do and that explains why just 330 people live here.

The Franz Josef glacier is named 'Ka Roimata o Hinehukatere' in Maori and it's one of the biggest glaciers in the country. It measures 12 kilometers in length. It's also unique because it's located just 300 meters above sea level and it moves ten times as much as an average glacier. The glacier area attracts a massive 250.000 visitors each year.

Picton is on the northern tip of the southern island. This is where you'll arrive if you cross the Cook Strait by ferry from Wellington. The scenery is stunning because the trip will take you through Marlborough Sounds which is a mixture of peninsulas and islands.

The large commercial ferry harbour, Picton, is located at the head of Queen Charlotte Sound. It's also possible to fly from Wellington to Picton. That's a lot faster but not as beautiful as the three-hour crossing by Interislander ferry!

Mercedes-Benz' newest toy. The SLS AMG is already a massive success for the German car manufacturer. Mercedes-Benz tried to design a reincarnated 300SL Gullwing and they did a fantastic job. This car looks best in bright colors like red, white or any other color that stands out.

Quite a unique car! The 300 SLS is a converted 300 SL Roadster. Some say only five of them were ever made. One is located in Monaco and one belongs to a wealthy Dutchman. This would be the third unique 300 SLS.

Oh my, this has got to be one of the finest HGTE's on the road at the moment. Dressed in yellow with yellow brake calipers and this is a beauty! Too bad there aren't many people that choose yellow on a Ferrari. It's the original Ferrari color over red.

The 599 GTB Fiorano is one of my favorite Ferrari cars. Very easy as a daily driver. Ferrari introduced the Handling GT Evoluzione package in 2009 at the Geneva Motor Show. It features a rear anti-roll bar, new wheels, Tubi exhaust system, a new front grille, stiffer springs and new settings for shock absorbers. The car has been lowered and the F1 gearbox shifts faster. The HGTE package is available when you order your 599 GTB Fiorano but if you already own one, your dealership is able to get you the HGTE pack.

The owner parked his car at the Dorchester hotel in central London, next to a Bentley Arnage T.

This is the second time I see a Porsche Boxster Spyder on the streets and I'm really starting to like this car. I even hope I'm gonna testdrive this car some time! For some reason the roof construction looks really cool and oldskool. Back to the years when you had to fold your own convertible roof.

The owner of this car did a fantastic job when he chose the color. The matching black wheels and red brake calipers looks fantastic. This car was parked in central London on Berkeley Square, just in front of a Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano.

One of many BMW M5's used as a Ringtaxi. They all look the same, except for its license plate. For 180 Euros an instructor takes you around the Nordschleife for a lap. That's 60 Euros each so not a bad deal. Most of the drivers use certain corners for drifting and sometimes they have to stop because someone has to throw up. I took this photo just minutes before it started to rain.

Mercedes-Benz introduced the SLS AMG GT3 at the 2010 New York Auto Show. Before appearing in the FIA GT3 Championship in 2011, this car will join national GT3 championships. On 25 September 2010 the SLS AMG GT3 made its track debut during a VLN race at the Nürburgring. The car had a small accident with a Corvette which caused a 3-lap fall-back. The SLS AMG GT3, driven by Thomas Jäger, eventually finished 91st in its first race.

New wheels are also part of the Competition Package and if you're in for a fancy color, I recommend Frozen Grey, a 1000 Euro option. Matte grey looks stunning!

Quite a unique car in Düsseldorf. Barely any Rolls-Royces here for some reason. The German are more into German cars. The guy who owns this car definitely has a great taste when it comes to cars. He previously owned a Bentley Azure Le Mans. Another convertible but far less common!

This car was made for the 2001 Tokyo Motor Show. Mercedes-Benz built this car to try out on active camber control in conjunction with new dynamic handling control systems. The F400 Carving can tilt up to an angle of twenty degrees at cornering.

As you notice there's no windscreen, just like the new McLaren SLR Stirling Moss. The engine is this car is a 3.2 liters V6 which produces 218 bhp. Unfortunately this car never went into production.

This is one of the few Mosler MT900 GTR cars ever made and an extremely rare sighting on the road. In case you're wondering, yes it is street legal.

I've taken this shot in Düsseldorf on the Steinstrasse. It's insane to see how much attention a car like this gets! The orange color and black wheels match perfectly with the black roof. This is probably one of my rarest sightings ever!

This years Amsterdam Motor Show, also known as the AutoRAI, had been an event I didn't enjoy as much as previous years. Instead of having areas where car manufacturers had the opportunity to show their cars in the own area, the organization decided to create 'worlds' like a 'world' for sports cars and convertibles, family cars, SUV's et cetera. So all cars were divided by genre. If, for example, you're mainly interested in Ford cars, you have a lot of walking to do because Ford cars were spread all over the exhibition halls. Not really my cup of tea. It had been chaotic and busy. Just like the last Amsterdam Motor Show two years ago, Ferrari and Maserati didn't show up. Luckily, a Ferrari collector from Holland brought a couple of his cars.

I've selected twelve of my best shots.

It's been a while since last year July but I've found some black and whites (and three color ones) in my archives I wanted to get online. Car shows are always very difficult when it comes to lightning and reflections. Luckily for me it was pretty quiet during press day. The London Motor Show, also known as the British International Motor Show isn't one of the bigger shows but it sure it one of the more interesting ones. Tons of manufacturers show up and there are always a number of super car clubs which bring some lovely cars.

Last week I paid a visit to the Tamsen dealership in Stuhr, Bremen. They sell Bentley, Aston Martin, Maserati, Ferrari and Lamborghini. Bremen isn't the only dealership they have, there is another one in Hamburg, just an hour away from Bremen. I arrived well before opening hours, some employees were just getting the cars outside for display purposes.

Tamsen has a wide variety of cars, both new and second hand. The second hand division even has a special building. Unfortunately it was closed. Quite a bummer because I noticed a very rare yellow Ford GT and a Lamborghini Gallardo SE, one of 250 only. The dealership itself wasn't open yet, they would open around 9.30 but as I said, I got there early. Although there were salesmen present, it didn't seem they fancied photographers. The front door seemed to be closed and you had to ring for someone to open the door.

Luckily there were a couple of open doors so you could have a look inside, from the outside though. When taking a photo of the all new Ferrari California, once again, a sales person didn't seem too happy. Quite weird, why open the doors if you don't fancy photographers. Anyway, they had a generous collection of cars stacked up there. I noticed a white Ferrari F430 Spider fitted with some Scuderia-striping and golden-colored Scuderia-wheels. Outside there happened to be a lovely Aston Martin DBS, my favorite Aston Martin at the moment although I quite prefer the Aston Martin V8 Vantage I'd driven a while ago.

It's the main dealership for Lamborghini, Maserati, Rolls-Royce, Bentley and Bugatti. Unfortunately no Bugatti's were present but there were tons of other lovely cars to see.

This is the only Lamborghini Murcielago 6.2 Roadster I've ever seen 'in the wild'. They are getting more and more difficult to snap on the road because the LP640 is far more popular. I believe this is a fantastic car, how crazy is it to go over 300 kilometers per hour in a roadster?

Report: Blauwvingerrally 2008

It took some time but finally, I've found some time to get this report online. The city of Zwolle hosted the annual Blauwvingerrally for the third time on September 13, 2008. All participants live in the city of Zwolle or in the area. This rally is all about giving children who suffer from long-term-illness a day to forget. To forget the fact they are sick and enjoy. The organisation invites a bunch of people with some of the most expensive cars. The day started very wet, it was pouring with rain but luckily, the weather improved and we even saw the sun when the drivers stopped for lunch.

Events like these are the best events. The smile on a kids' face is priceless, it shows they are having a good time and think about other things than their daily problems.

Video: Porsche Carrera GT EVOMS

Is this the perfect sound on a Porsche Carrera GT? You might compare it with a Lamborghini Gallardo Spyder accelerating in a tunnel. The sound is amazing! This will make a lot of people go out of the way when you're entering a tunnel. This Carrera GT has been modified by the guys of Evolution Motorsport. They changed the exhaust for their very own muffler bypass pipes.

The pipes aren't the most expensive part of the upgrade, they are only 2700$. Evolution Motorsport also adds an ECU upgrade called EVOMSit. This 7500$ ECU tuning kit for the Carrera GT has been tested under the most severe conditions.

For just a bit more than 10k$, you get a found which, we think, is far better than the original sound.

Spyshots: 2009 Mercedes E-class

Mercedes is getting ready for the 2009 E-class. Even though it has already been spyshot without any tape. the Germans are still driving around with taped cars. Unfortunately this isn't the AMG version. Mercedes is going to introduce a 204 bhp turbodiesel Bluetec which will be very friendly for the environment. Also, they will come up with a BlueHybrid and the AMG version will get 550 bhp from a V8.

Last week I paid a visit to a Porsche dealership which I visited last year. One of my mates told me they had three GT3 RS cars in stock so I was quite excited to check them out. Unfortunately they were all gone, some sold though! Here are a couple of shots I took.

I'm quite a big fan of those old 356 cars, replica or not, I couldn't care less. They look fantastic and if you're lucky enough to own an original one, they are worth quite a lot!

The people from Sweden are capable of making more than Ikea-furniture. A small company called Koenigsegg creates a 800 bhp monster from a V8 engine. The CCX is a car which the driver needs to work in, it's a lot more difficult to drive than a Bugatti Veyron.

Pay your tax or have your car sold!

The London borough Sutton had a very special car for auction. A couple of weeks ago they auctioned a Ferrari 348 for 18.000 GBP because of an experid tax disc. The car was wearing a tax disk that expired in 2004. After the owner failed to pay the outstanding fines and storage fees, the car went up for auction.

18k really is not a lot of money for a 348. On the other hand, it's one of those Ferraris that might cause quite some problems. Luckily, the owner doesn't have any issues with fuel prices anymore, he hasn't got a car to get fuel for. Councillor Colin Hall: "it doesn't matter if you have a Ferrari or a Fiat: tax your car or face the consequences."

Report: Bavaria City Racing Rotterdam 2008

9.30 am, welcome in Rotterdam. It's not really one of my favorite cities for some reason, although it has some pretty nice buildings. This year's edition of Bavaria City Racing was the fifth edition in Rotterdam. It has grown to one of the biggest motor sport events in Europe. More and more people attend every year and this year Rotterdam hosted 500.000 visitors. World famous Formula One drivers like Robert Doornbos, Jarno Trulli, Giancarlo Fisichella and Adrian Sutil raced the narrow streets of Rotterdam to give the audience a day they wouldn't forget. A lot of Formula One demonstrations, burnouts, starts, drifting etc were ingredients for a very noisy day! Luckily, we managed to get some ear plugs to start the day.

Renault F1 really blew away the crowd, local hero Robert Doornbos knew how to drive his car and how to entertain the crowd by doing tons of donuts, Trulli on the other hand had a lazy day. He didn't show that much action, didn't know where to find his right pedal and mainly used his right hand for waving instead of driving like a proper F1-driver. Let's not forget Tom Coronel in his WTCC Seat Leon and Renger van der Zande in his GP2 class-car.

Nissan arranged their new GT-R for Bavaria city Racing. It's the second GT-R I see this summer. The red one in London last month impressed me more. Even though the one in Rotterdam drove past us all day, it didn't make that much noise. I don't know why but there's probably a reason for it. The other safety car, a Lamborghini Gallardo, made a lot more noise!

So, not much of a report really... There wasn't really a lot to see from where we stood all day. Our VIP-tickets gave us access to the ING Bank area but it appeared to be a terrible place if you're into photography. We were standing about two meters from the safety barrier. It was pretty difficult to get a decent shot of the cars, who were driving by at very high speeds, without getting the safety barriers in the photo. Halfway during the day they moved the fences another two meters backwards so I was pretty much done taking photos. The distance way too big to even get the car in the picture. I only got the roof. Luckily, I managed to get a view shots near the safety barriers, the security guys were quite nice to me.

More luck next year!

News from the UK: fire destroys sports cars

A fire has destroyed at least seven sports cars at a service garage in Longford, England. Firefighters were able to prevent other cars from getting destroyed. Unfortunately seven cars were completely ruined and another fifteen damaged. The fire may have been caused by an electrical fault at TVR Performance and Service Centre.

Nearly 45 firefighters were needed at the site when the fire just after midnight. 21-year-old Richard Peacock, company director and TVR-owner, said "it's heart-breaking, being my pride and joy". His car was supposed to be ready for a drive next week after a number of repairs.

"When I'm driving my Lotus, I don't feel sick." These famous words are the reason why a couple of friends started an event called MaartenMemorial. This year, the MaartenMemorial was organised on August 5th, a day after Maarten died five years ago. Maarten van Sten died from cancer at the age of 27. He was a Lotus fanatic and had his own business, Van Sten Engineering. He spent his last days in the Daniel den Hoed clinique. MaartenMemorial is a fantastic event to raise funds to finance cancer research. Nearly 100 cars attend every year. Everybody gathers at the Feyenoord stadium, the Kuip, and they leave just after noon to the famous track in Zandvoort. Before all cars arrived there, each car did a soundcheck at The Pitstop in Amsterdam before heading down to Zandvoort.

As a photographer for the Lotus Club Holland, I had the privilege to be a passenger and drive along with all those other cars. It's been a fantastic day and the Daniel den Hoed clinique received a cheque of 129.000 euro. This is not enough! Support cancer research and make sure you make your donation today! WTF? How eerie is this Lotus promotional stunt?

The aliens have landed in the United Kingdom! Or is it something else? Yes, it's most likely the publicity stunt of Lotus to start getting people ready for the new Lotus Eagle. The DailyMail spotted two persons at numerous places in London like Elton John's White Tie Ball and the summer sale at Harrods.

Two people are wearing some kind of tight mask over their eyes, nose and mouth and showed up in the crowd at the Wimbledon tennis tournament. They are carrying a Lotus badge so it has to do something with Lotus. We can only imagine this has something to do with the new Eagle coming up this month at the London International Motor Show.

This has just got to be very freaky for the people in the audience seeing two people sitting there with masks over their and not being able to breath. Well, there is probably something figured out for that. The masks have very tiny holes near the eye area so they can at least see where they are walking.

Lotus is probably trying to get the people in the UK ready for the launch of the new Eagle. They even launched a special website which clarifies the reason why these people are walking with masks on their face. Facelesspeople.com has been launched for the new Eagle and it has a counter on it saying it will be little less than 17 days from now on. That's about the same date as the London International Motor Show starts. Lotus gave the website a very matching title: "True Character". So in 17 days we're going to see the true character of the new Eagle.

Lotus comes up with a sneak preview

We're only 28 days away for the Lotus Eagle to be unveiled. For the past time, we've written a lot about this new Lotus car and how it will look like but apparently Lotus is giving us a sneak preview already.

This impression was found on the Lotus 60th Anniversary website. Lotus will celebrate its anniversary on September 14th in Hethel with a big event. On the image we see a couple of head lights which are quite similar on the Elise and Exige. This car looks a bit higher though but it seems the big grill is still present.

Video: Lotus Elise on track

It's well known that driving on the track is something completely different than driving on the road. A normal road... Check out the video below, this guy is racing in his Lotus against other Lotus cars but it seems he really knows what he's doing. Tailgating wherever possible and overtaking where there is barely any space available. It also seems his car is a bit faster than all other cars in the field as overtaking looks so easy in this video.

New artist impression of the Eagle

Another artist impression of the 2009 Lotus Eagle. We're only a month away for it to be unveiled but Topspeed made their version of how the car could look like after all those spyshots. The 2+2 Eagle will be for sale by the end of this year. Lotus will place the Eagle between the Elise en the new Esprit, which will be unveiled somewhere in 2010. If you fancy buying an Eagle, prices start at 90.000 USD.

The Lotus Eagle will get a V6 engine which comes from the Toyota Camry. Of course the engine has been tuned a bit so it produces 300 bhp max. More details in a month time!

Count the Veyron: ehh....all 70?!

Okay, so we know there are gonna be about 300 Bugatti Veyrons but how many of them have actually been delivered? Well, we guess about 150, so that means we're halfway production. A very rich Dutch person just received his Veyron. It's not a big surprise most of these hyperfast cars come in two colors, for some reason not many people prefer a single color.

This guy started to collect photos from every colour which leaves the Bugatti factory in Molsheim, France. We've counted almost 70 different colour schemes, including the pink-ish flower one which is said to be photoshopped.

Report: Lotus Club Holland Spring Ride

As every year, the Lotus Club Holland organised this years spring ride on the 20th of April in the western province of North-Holland. It was said to be quite an exciting drive because part of the directions had been put on a 100-year-old road map. Research by the organisation showed us that several roads haven't been changed in the last 100 years so what's more exciting than using such an old map. It was quite difficult because so many roads were added. This made it very confusing at some point and when we got lost we decided to drive the opposite direction.

We visited a very car museum in Schagen. They open their doors twice a month and the entry is free of charge. The Automuseum has a very wide variety and interesting collection of cars so it's definately worth a visit!

The ride started at a restaurant in Bakkum, near the North Sea. It ended in Puremerend, after driving the entire day for 160 kilometers. Well, it was worth it! We had an amazing day and we've seen so many places we've never seen before. Looking forward to the after summer tour in October.

Aston Martin DB9 crashes into a pile

What on earth could have happened? This Aston Martin DB9 crashed into a small pile in the city center of a Dutch town. As you can see on the two images the front is seriously damaged, the car will need a new front bumper but what else? There might be a lot of electronics damaged, stuff you can't see. The owner of this DB9 must be having a terrible day, he only registered his car 1.5 months ago...

Spyker and Lotus intensify cooperation

The Dutch pride and luxury car manufacturer Spyker from Zeewolde has announced that they will be working a lot closer with Lotus from now on. Spyker is already working together with Lotus for the past four years. Lotus will supply Spyker with parts for the C8 Aileron, the newest sports car from Zeewolde. Both companies hope to decrease their costs for parts. Lotus will assist Spyker the upcoming years to develop new cars. We know Lotus is known for its lightweight cars so maybe Lotus and Spyker are planning to develop a lightweight in the near future.

Spyshots: Fisker Karma on the track

Worldcarfans reports on some newly published spyshots on the Fisker Karma. The Karma already made a very interesting impression at the Detroit Motor Show when Fisker showed the Karma as a concept car. These images are released by Fisker to see how the audience is starting to think about the car. It happens quite often that a final version is way more different than the concept which looked so perfect and production-ready.

Fisker is not releasing a lot of information about the cars technology. We do know that the Karma will get a small gasoline engine to supply the generator and to charge the lithium ion battery pack. Rumours are that this will be a 1.4 liter engine from Volkswagen.

Porsche Zandvoort Days 2008 cancelled

Porsche Club Holland has confirmed the cancellation of the Porsche Zandvoort Days 2008. During several meetings all parties tried to put together a programme which would be acceptable for both visitors and organisation. Due to strict noise regulations at the Zandvoort track, it wouldn't be possible to create a programme which would satisfy all parties.

The Zandvoort track only has a limited amount of so called "noise days". These are days when a huge amount of noise is permitted. Most of these "noise days" are used by the A1GP and the DTM races so it doesn't leave a lot of spare room for other smaller events like the Porsche Zandvoort Days 2008. Outside these special days, the track is allowed to make a certain amount of decibels but it's way lower than during the DTM or A1GP. The decibles are measured over a period of 24 hours regardless the kind of activity or whether it's a day in the weekend of during the week.

The more decibels a car is producing, the less amount of laps it can do during the 24 hours. By looking at the noise a Porsche makes, the organisation offers three sessions of twenty minutes each per category. This means that every driver only has one hour driving time during the entire day and each session has 30 Porsches. The organisation decided to cancel the event due to these conclusions. It's simply not possible to offer a decent price/quality ratio.

The bull from Italy! This is one of the best looking supercars ever made. It looks amazing and it sounds amazing. Saw this car in London when I was taking some pictures of a lovely Aston Martin V8 Coupe. All of a sudden I cruised thru a narrow street so I started walking towards it. Hurray, I managed to make a photo!
